Our Company was established in 1988 by our current Managing Director, Steve Smith and has grown from humble beginnings to a profitable and well regarded construction business.

Whilst we specialise in luxury homes on the Mornington Peninsula, we also undertake residential projects spanning all market sectors, from high-end homes and multi-stage developments to renovations, extensions and maintenance.

We’re also registered commercial builders. Past projects have included restaurant, hotel, shop and office renovations and additions, the construction of maintenance facilities for a golf club, jetty construction and a number of Civil works projects.

A testament to our high standards, quality of work and integrity is that the vast majority of our work is obtained by personal recommendations from clients, designers and architects practising in and around the Mornington Peninsula.

Our strong capital base allows us to expand all facets of our business. We look forward to continued growth and market penetration to further consolidate our position in the building community.

The Smith Builders team

Our highly skilled in-house team oversee all aspects of the building process including design, planning, costing, construction, project management, contract administration and accounting. Our qualified and experienced carpenters and trade specialists are integral to our team and ensure all projects meet the highest of building standards and finish in line with the architect’s or designer’s vision.

We have close working relationships with specialist external contractors and consultants covering all building disciplines who we work with regularly. This means we can ensure reliability, quality and consistency in all areas of your construction or renovation project.

Founder & Director

Steve is a registered unlimited domestic and commercial builder with over 40 years' building experience. He leads a complete team of employees, architects, and consultants from design stages through to planning and construction stages.

General Manager

Vicki holds a bachelor of business and has completed building and architectural drafting courses. She has a thorough working knowledge of the building industry and its many intricacies and is well placed to provide sound business and design advice.

Steve Quint

Construction Manager

Steve is a registered builder with over 25 years' experience in the residential and commercial sectors as a carpenter, site supervisor, and construction manager. He has built strong relationships with all trades through respect and commitment and has developed a keen eye for detail on site, all of which ensure a seamless build process.

Tim Fuggle

Senior Project Manager

Tim joined Smith Builders to reconnect with his passion and interest in high-end residential construction. He has in excess of 26 years-experience in high end residential, large scale residential and commercial construction projects. Tim is extremely highly regarded for delivering projects of the highest quality and has a strong reputation with peers, clients, architects and all project stakeholders.

Sue Harris

Office Administration

Sue has been with us for in excess of 25 years and provides a wealth of knowledge and efficiency in all aspects of office procedures, product procurement and logistics. She is familiar with all of our repeat clients and provides a friendly and knowledgeable first point of call when contacting our office.

Patrick McLaughlin

Site Supervisor / Maintenance Manager

Patrick commenced with us in 2002 as a carpenter and has grown with our business. Patrick now supervises many of our small to medium size projects including all of our maintenance projects. His knowledge of Company procedures, local building requirements and high expectations with regard to quality and finish are second to none. Our clients have direct contact with Patrick for all ongoing works which provides our clients with a friendly and reliable face moving forward.

Dan Chandler

Project Manager

Dan is a registered builder and has over 16 years’ experience working across high end architectural custom homes and commercial projects in the role of carpenter, leading hand, site foreman and more recently as Project Manager. Dan has a positive attitude and is adept at on the spot thinking and problem solving. His lead by example, honest and positive demeaner motivates others on site and results in successful projects both for our Company and clients.

Kristy Richardson

Bookkeeper and Human Resources Manager

Kristy has completed a Certificate IV in Bookkeeping and is currently completing a Human Resources Management Diploma. Kristy has extensive experience working with and in the construction industry and is extremely efficient and highly motivated in all aspects of her role. Her bright, positive, and organised attitude is a huge asset to our Company.

Nicola Mold

Contract Administration Trainee and Marketing Officer

Nicola has completed a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Marketing and a Certificate IV in Construction Management. Nicola is an effective communicator, fast learner, good problem solver and works in an efficient and organised manner. Her bright and confident manner allows her to build strong relationships both within and outside our office.

Scott Gordon

Contract Administrator

Scott joined our team in April 2023 with extensive experience in the Construction Industry. Scott holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and Infrastructure – Honours and is proficient with many software packages across the Construction space. Scott is extremely calm and competent and works with our entire team to deliver accurate and seamless Contract Administration outcomes.

Brian O’Carroll

Site Manager

Brian joined our team in October 2023 and brings with him 20 years of construction industry experience in high end Residential and Commercial projects. Brian has a solid carpentry and supervision background working his way through Carpentry, Leading Hand, Site Foreman and Site Manager roles. He is personable and methodical which creates confidence and efficiency on site.

Part of our team since February 2023 Steve has an impressive career in architectural residential construction with more than 25 years of experience. He is extremely capable, calm, methodical and personable with all team members and clients resulting in team and client confidence to deliver a very high-quality project.

Travis Dearie

Site Manager

Travis joined us in April 2022 and has more than 15 years of extensive experience in high end residential construction projects across Melbourne. He is extremely motivated, proficient, and reliable with an impeccable eye for detail resulting in an extremely high-quality project finish.
